'Disrespectful' Melania Trump criticised for leaving sunglasses on during D-Day ceremony

http://sd.uploads.ru/t/86fnr.jpg
Melania Trump's sunglasses during the D Day ceremony proved offensive for some.

Melania Trump has been criticised for wearing sunglasses throughout yesterday’s D-Day ceremony – with many calling US President Donald Trump’s wife “disrespectful” and “tasteless” for the move.

D Day was the largest seaborne invasion in history, when the Allied Forces of Britain, America, Canada and France attacked the German army on the coast of Normandy, France.

As many as 4,400 soldiers died from the combined forces, according to the BBC, in what’s widely regarded as the turning point which ended World War Two.

Yet during the 75th anniversary event, sitting alongside world leaders and D-Day veterans, the First Lady kept her oversized designer sunglasses firmly on.

Jimmy Carter, after hip surgery, back teaching Sunday school

http://sg.uploads.ru/t/IoN63.jpg
President Jimmy Carter, 94, returns to Maranatha Baptist Church to teach Sunday School less than a month after falling and breaking his hip on Sunday, June 9, 2019, in Plains, Ga. A member of the congregation made a special chair for the former president out of a boat seat. (Curtis Compton/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP)

ATLANTA (AP) — Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter talked about his recent health setback and his conversation with President Donald Trump, as he returned to teaching Sunday school in Georgia for the first time since breaking his hip.

Carter told people gathered at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains that he and his wife, Rosalynn, have nursing care at home and are doing fine. He thanked those present for their prayers and good wishes.

The 94-year-old Carter broke his hip last month at his home when he fell while leaving to go turkey hunting. He subsequently had hip replacement surgery.

The former first lady also was hospitalized around the same time for what Carter said was initially thought to be a stroke, but turned out to be less serious.

A devout Christian, Carter regularly teaches Sunday school in Plains, drawing hundreds of visitors for each session. But he had to cancel plans to teach after hip surgery.

People began gathering at midnight to hear Carter, and by 8 a.m., a line wrapped around the church despite pouring rain, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

"We wanted to pay tribute for all of the work he has done," Glenda Morris-Robinson told the newspaper. "It is so wonderful to see a true servant leader. He was remarkable."

Morris-Robinson, a pediatrician from Atlanta, drove down with her daughter, Gabriella, who flew in from New York City just for the occasion.

Carter said he recently wrote to Trump to explain how the Carter administration had tried to address economic friction with Japan, and Trump called him.

"He was very gracious," Carter said, adding Trump expressed his appreciation for Carter's letter as well as admiration for the former president.

"The main purpose of his call was to say very frankly to me on a private line that the Chinese were getting way ahead of the United States in many ways," Carter said.

He said he told Trump the U.S. has been in constant war for years, spending trillions of dollars, while China has invested in projects such as high speed rail that benefit its people.

In March, Carter became the longest-living chief executive in U.S. history, exceeding the lifespan of former President George H.W. Bush, who died Nov. 30 at the age of 94 years, 171 days.

The milestone came despite a cancer diagnosis more than three years earlier. Carter disclosed in 2015 that he had melanoma that had spread to his liver and brain. He received treatment for seven months until scans showed no sign of the disease.

Buckingham Palace Is Opening a New Exhibit About Queen Victoria This Summer

http://s8.uploads.ru/t/ZEuqy.jpg
This year marks the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria's birth, and in honor of the milestone, Buckingham Palace is putting on a special exhibit highlighting the British monarch's life, and specifically, how she transformed the Palace "from a private house into a working royal residence."

Victoria was notably the first reigning British monarch to live in Buckingham Palace, taking up residence shortly after she ascended to the throne in July of 1837, and establishing a tradition that continues today with Queen Elizabeth. But, as the royal family's website puts it, Victoria's marriage to Prince Albert, and their growing family "soon showed up the Palace's shortcomings."

http://s5.uploads.ru/t/5edDF.jpg
Victoria wrote to the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel, about 'the urgent necessity of doing something to Buckingham Palace' and 'the total want of accommodation for our growing little family.'

Eventually, funds were approved for renovations and the addition of a new wing.

According to the Royal Collection Trust, this summer's exhibit "will explore how Victoria made Buckingham Palace what it remains today–the headquarters of the Monarchy, a rallying point for national celebrations and a family home."

http://s7.uploads.ru/t/X7O2N.jpg
Pieces highlighted in the show include several paintings of parties held at Buckingham Palace during Victoria's reign, a portrait of the British monarch, and Queen Victoria's gown for the Stuart Ball, which illustrates just how small she was.

The Queen's Star of the Order of the Bath, a stunning piece of jewelry, which features gold and silver detailing, as well as diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, will also be on display.

The exhibit opens on July 20, and will run through September 29 of this year as part of the Palace's opening of the State Rooms.

Domino’s Was Pranked into Delivering Pizzas to Queen Elizabeth

http://sg.uploads.ru/t/WixNO.jpg
urns out ‘Elizabeth’ at Buckingham Palace didn’t actually want four cheeseburger pizzas.

Sending pizzas to someone else’s house is one of the oldest pranks in the book. In fact, it’s so clichéd I think we can officially file it under “super lame.” But what if you totally go all out with it? Like, take it so far up the chain of boldness that its pure prankhood can no longer be denied? You could make the argument that’s what happened in London last week when someone ordered pizzas to the Queen of England… and it almost worked.

On Thursday afternoon, a Domino’s driver on a motorcycle was stopped from trying to deliver a £46 order for four cheeseburger (nice touch) pizzas to Buckingham Palace under the name “Elizabeth,” according to The Sun. “The driver was stopped by two armed police officers who got him to get off his bike and park up,” an unnamed source told the British paper. “One of them then radioed through to the control room to check if the Queen had indeed ordered a pizza. The next thing the copper said was ‘Sorry sir, Elizabeth is the name of the Queen — and she lives at Buckingham Palace. I think someone is winding you up.’ The poor guy looked very confused and just rode off.”

Domino’s tried to take the gag — which was apparently placed through their London Victoria location — with a bit of a laugh themselves. “We’ve always suspected the Queen was a secret Domino’s fan and the order to Buckingham Palace almost confirmed our suspicions,” store manager Zsuzsanna Queiser was quoted as saying. “We didn’t quite make it past the gate, but the four large Cheeseburger pizzas seemed to go down pretty well with the police officers on duty. Next time, Your Majesty.”

That’s all fine and good until you realize that The Sun also said a Domino’s spokeswoman told them that the order was placed by telephone. So no, this wasn’t some online order that sneaked through the system until a driver suddenly realized he was duped. An actual Domino’s employee would have had to accept an order for Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace and thought, Sounds good to me. If true, they’re either the worst employee or the most dedicated employee Domino’s has ever had.

Who Prince Harry was apparently dating when he met Meghan Markle

Prince Harry was frequently deemed 'Britain's most eligible bachelor' before he married and had a baby with Meghan Markle. So it's unsurprising to learn that he was very much in demand in the dating game when he met his future wife.

In a new book, Harry: Conversations with the Prince, royal biographer Angela Levin claims Prince Harry was dating model Sarah Ann Macklin when he was introduced to then-Suits actress Meghan Markle.

Harry and Sarah Ann are reported to have met at a private party, where they swapped numbers and exchanged some texts. "But it turned out to be just a fling," wrote Levin in her book.
http://sh.uploads.ru/t/jXeu9.jpg
As well as for the likes of Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren, Sarah Ann is also trained in human nutrition and she now practices at the exclusive ROC Harley Street Clinic.

While Prince Harry and Sarah Ann are thought to have gone on a few dates back in 2016, the royal was swept off his feet when he went on a blind date with Meghan Markle - and he never looked back.
http://s3.uploads.ru/t/Wf5D1.jpg
Harry and Meghan were set up by a mutual friend, and while it's never been confirmed exactly who played cupid, it's believed to have been fashion designer Misha Nonoo, who was previously married to former Eton pupil and one of Harry's closest friends, Alexander Gilkes.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle actually spoke about their first meeting during their engagement interview back in November 2017. "We were introduced actually by a mutual friend," Harry said, while Meghan added: "It was definitely a set up, it was a blind date.

"I didn’t know much about him and so I asked her when she said she would set us up: 'Is he nice?' If he wasn’t kind it didn’t seem like it would make sense," the formeractress continued.

http://sd.uploads.ru/t/VJFbG.jpg
Harry went on to explain that after meeting for the first time in London in July 2016, they got on so well they decided to meet for a second date the following day. A few weeks later, he "managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana and we camped out together under the stars and enjoyed five days together."

"It was absolutely fantastic," Harry added. "We were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure we had a chance to get to know each other."

Oh, the romance.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's son, Archie Harrison, already has a seriously busy schedule.

To celebrate Prince Harry's first Father's Day, the royals shared the very first close-up photo of baby Archie on Instagram. At the same time, news of Archie's royal christening broke, with The Sunday Times reporting that Meghan and Harry are planning to hold the special event in early July.

But according to royal correspondent for The Sunday Times, Roya Nikkhah, there's one important family member who won't be present at the festivities, and that's Queen Elizabeth. Nikkhah explained, "The Queen will miss the christening because of prior commitments. She attended the christenings of Prince George and Princess Charlotte but missed Prince Louis’s baptism last year."

Royal fans will recall that Queen Elizabeth also didn't attend great-grandson Prince Louis's christening in July 2018. At the time, Daily Mail royal correspondent, Rebecca English, tweeted, "The Queen & Philip have just spent the weekend together in Norfolk. He is remaining there while she travels back to London today. Her decision not to attend was mutually agreed with William & Kate..."

Nikkhah notes that Queen Elizabeth did, however, "attend the christening of her seventh great-grandchild-Lena Tindall, the second daughter of Zara and Mike Tindall-in March."

Despite reportedly not being able to attend Archie Harrison's christening, it's clear that the queen is quite enamored with her newest great-grandchild.

During Trooping the Colour, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were spotted talking to each other in their carriage (as married humans tend to do-albeit not usually in carriages).

The Daily Mail tapped a lip reading expert to crack the mystery of what Harry said to Meghan.

Apparently, Harry said, "Turn around...Look," to his wife.
http://sh.uploads.ru/t/jFQTm.gif

"Analyzing the footage, MailOnline's lip reading expert concluded Prince Harry said to Meghan, 'yes, that's right' when she looked at him the first time, before adding: 'Turn around... Look,' when she turned back to him a short time later."

According to the Daily Mail, it's customary for members of the royal family to face the crowd during the national anthem, which started playing moments after the exchange. So basically Harry was just reminding Meghan about one of the many, many royal protocols she's expected to somehow memorize and follow. Sweet and drama-free.

Even at the most public of events, some of what the royal family says and does remains a mystery to us mere commoners-unless we hire and believe lip readers, of course.

Meghan Markle stepped out for her first post-birth royal engagement this month at Trooping the Colour, where she celebrated her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, along with the rest of the country.

http://sh.uploads.ru/t/jFQTm.gif

Even though Meghan, along with her husband, Prince Harry, and every other senior-ranking member of the royal family, was very much in the public eye during the entire event, some royal fans just needed to know what exactly she and Harry were saying to each other during their carriage ride on the big day.

So, the people over at the Daily Mail did the only thing they could do and brought in a professional lip reader to solve the mystery. What were Harry and Meghan saying to each other, you ask? Exchanging sweet nothings? Discussing fascinating details about Baby Archie? Nope. They were just talking about very practical matters of the moment, like where Meghan should look during the parade.

It's a royal affair!

http://s9.uploads.ru/t/YDF46.jpg

The royal family kicked off their week by attending the annual Order of the Garter ceremony on Monday morning at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. The tradition, which was founded 700 years ago by King Arthur, is considered "the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry" in Britain.

http://s8.uploads.ru/t/MOk7l.jpg

To no surprise, this year's ceremony featured an impressive list of attendees, including Queen Elizabeth, Prince William and Duchess Kate, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Countess of Wessex, the King and Queen of Spain and the King and Queen of Netherlands. King Felipe and King Willem-Alexander were installed as Supernumerary Knights of the Garter by the queen during this year's ceremony.

http://s5.uploads.ru/t/7ghTK.jpg
While the Duchess of Cambridge was there to cheer on her husband as Prince William took part in the parade, all eyes were actually on the royal mom-of-three during the royal-packed event. Kate, who made her Garter Day debut 11 years ago, stole the show in a white and black Catherine Walker coat and matching hat by Lock & Co.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are also expected to step out for the 2019 Royal Ascot this week. The annual extravaganza will bring together 300,000 visitors over the course of five days, including many members of the royal family.

Just a Bunch of Photos of Kate and William Being Cute at Royal Ascot

Prince William and Kate Middleton are known for keeping their PDA to a bare minimum, and the 2019 Royal Ascot was no exception. However, the couple did share plenty of cute interactions throughout the first day of the annual horse racing event. Here are a few of our favorite moments between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge today:

Duchess Kate affectionately placed her right hand on her man's arm while they spoke with Zara Tindall and her husband Mark Tindall.

Why the Queen will miss royal baby Archie's christening

http://s8.uploads.ru/t/7iX5y.jpg
From Cosmopolitan

As royal watchers await their next glimpse of royal baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor at his upcoming christening, it's been reported that the Queen will be unable to make the special royal occasion.

According to The Sunday Times, Her Majesty is said to have prior engagements which conflict with the event. The monarch attended the christenings of Prince George and Princess Charlotte in 2013 and 2015, but missed Prince Louis' baptism last year.

"The decision [for the Queen and Prince Philip to miss Louis's christening] was not made on health grounds, Buckingham Palace says, and it is understood to have been mutually agreed by the Queen and the Cambridges some time ago," Press Association announced in 2018.

It had been busy time for the Queen, who had in a number of events marking the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force, plus a meeting with US President Donald Trump at Windsor Castle, in the days preceding Louis' christening.

Buckingham Palace has yet to announce the date for Archie's christening, but it's thought that it could take place in the first week of July. St George's Chapel in Windsor is likely to be the venue, which is where Prince Harry was baptised in 1984. And, of course, Prince Harry and Meghan married at the chapel in May 2018.

Senior royals including Prince Charles and Camilla, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to attend, along with Meghan's mother Doria.

Kate Middleton and Prince William's Royal Convoy Hits Woman, Leaving Her Seriously Injured

Julia Dzurillay

June 19, 2019

On Monday, June 17, a motorcyclist in Kate Middleton and Prince William’s royal convoy seriously injured a woman in her 80s. The woman remains in the hospital, in serious but stable condition. The Duke and Dutchess are reported “deeply concerned and saddened” by what happened.

There was a collision with Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Royal convoy

The Duke and Duchess had a hectic few days. The couple enjoyed a day at the Royal Ascot horse race. On Monday, William and Kate were traveling from London to Windsor, on their way to attend the Order of the Garter. Then, according to BBC, an incident took place on Upper Richmond Road in Richmond.

Allegedly, a police motorcycle in the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Royal convoy hit an elderly woman. The incident left the woman seriously injured. She was taken to the hospital.

According to The Telegraph, The Duke and Duchess were “deeply concerned and saddened” by what happened. They have been in touch with the family to send flowers.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were deeply concerned and saddened to hear about the accident on Monday afternoon,” a spokesman for Kensington Palace said. “Their Royal Highnesses have sent their very best wishes to Irene and her family and will stay in touch throughout every stage of her recovery.”

The woman injured is an 83-year-old widow

The woman is named locally as Irene Mayor. Reportedly, she is 83-years-old and the mother of a woman named Fiona. According to The Sun, the Duke and Duchess already reached out to Fiona, expressing their wish to visit Irene Mayor.

“She’s got lots of injuries,” Fiona said, according to The Sun. “They are just keeping her stable at the moment.”

“I have known [Irene Mayor] for over 40 years. She used to do a lot of voluntary work for the church and her husband Walter used to lead the evening service,” said Lionel Blackburn, 78, a friend of Irene’s. “We were all devastated when we heard she had been hit by the police bike.”

The incident is still under investigation

The Metropolitan Police Service referred the collision to the IOPC, or the Independent Office for Police Conduct, where the incident remains under investigation.

“The woman, in her 80s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a London hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition,” IOPC said in an interview with The Telegraph. According to The Telegraph, the investigation is in its early stages. Additionally, the police officer involved in the collision is assisting in the investigation as a witness.

“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding a collision involving a marked police motorcycle attached to the Royalty and Specialist Protection Command and a woman pedestrian on Upper Richmond Road, Richmond, south west London at 12:50 p.m. on Monday 17 June,” IOPC said to The Telegraph.

Irene Mayor is currently in the hospital, in serious but stable condition.

Was This Wedding Mistake the Reason for Meghan & Harry's Feud with Kate & William?

We’ve all heard the rumors: Something’s not right between the Sussexes and the Cambridges. Now that Prince Harry has split from Prince William’s charity, rumors have only grown — but according to a royal expert, a lacking announcement at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding sparked those feud rumors, which could have been easily avoided. Per the expert, Meghan and Harry had just announced early on that they planned to live elsewhere and separate their organizations from William and Kate Middleton, these rumors would never have existed.

ITV’s Good Morning Britain was discussing the news of the Sussex and Cambridge royals splitting their charities when royal expert Katie Nicholl chimed in with her analysis. “I’ll tell you what I think went wrong if I am being honest,” she said. “I think had they announced that there was going to be a separate household at the time of the wedding, or shortly after, and a new charitable foundation, it would have felt very natural, it would have felt very timely and possibly we wouldn’t have had this whole narrative and the rumors of the rift being fueled.”

The separate household she’s referring to is Frogmore Cottage, a house at Windsor Castle where Meghan and Harry moved to prepare for the birth of their first child, Archie Harrison.

Good Morning Britain continued to debate the issue, acknowledging that the split was registered as a surprise to the general public, who wondered if there might be some more insidious reason behind it. “People are probably saying ‘you know, is there now a separate foundation because as a foursome they do not get on?'” the hosts asked. Nicholl maintained  her position: “All of that would have been avoided, had the announcement they would be a separate household and a separate foundation before.”

It’s true that, had we been expecting it, there would have been no opportunity to suspect foul play in the foursome splitting their charity. But perhaps we should focus more on not reading every official decision as one royal throwing shade at another — after all, it’s hardly Meghan and Harry’s fault that we’re so eager to see them “feud” with their Cambridge counterparts.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Frogmore Home Upgrades Were Just Revealed (No Yoga Studio!)

http://s5.uploads.ru/t/aKdB2.jpg

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can finally put down their paintbrushes: Frogmore Cottage has been fixed up!

“It’s substantially completed,” a Buckingham Palace source tells PEOPLE about the five-bed home on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The palace is also sharing a breakdown of the funds that went into the renovations of their new home.

The royal couple renovated the interior of the historic home earlier this year in anticipation of the arrival of Archie Harrison. More recently, they’ve attended to the outside of the property, redecorating the exterior doors, windows and walls and upgrading some of the outbuildings —  while also re-landscaping the garden and adding some extra garden lighting too.

While the British taxpayer has paid for the overall renovation costs through the Queen’s annual Sovereign Grant, Buckingham Palace figures released Monday show it cost the public around $3 million. However, “anything moveable” or in the cottage gardens has been paid for by Harry and Meghan themselves.

http://sh.uploads.ru/t/67COA.jpg
As with all old homes, Frogmore had enough of its own surprises to keep the royal couple on their toes.

“A very large proportion of the ceiling beams and floor joists were defective and had to be replaced,” adds the source about the mid-1800s cottage, which was turned from a single home into five small dormitory-style units long before Harry and Meghan set eyes on it.

To make it a suitable family home — and official residence — Frogmore first had to be returned to its original form.

“The heating systems were outdated and inefficient and were not to the environmental standards that we would expect today,” the source adds.

“The electrical system also needed to be substantially replaced and rewired, even extending to the establishment of a separate upgraded electrical substation, which was in addition to the main works on the property.

“And new gas and water mains had to be introduced to the property, replacing the five separate links that were there for the property before and were in a bad state of repair.

“Overall, the works were conducted over a period of around six months.”

The end result is that Harry and Meghan now have a cozy — and very private — home to raise Archie.

While the $3 million construction costs may seem high for a newlywed’s first pad, it’s all part of the wider $55 million spent by the Queen to conserve the royal palaces over the past 12 months.

This conservation work is largely funded by an annual $63 million Sovereign Grant given to the Queen by the U.K. Government to maintain the royal palaces on behalf of the nation — a role that she and the rest of the royal family take extremely seriously.

“The property had not been the subject of work for some years and had already been earmarked for renovation in line with our responsibility to maintain the condition of the occupied Royal Palaces Estate,” Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse told reporters at Buckingham Palace on Monday.

“The Sovereign Grant covered the work undertaken to turn the building into the official residence and home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their new family. The building was returned to a single residence and outdated infrastructure was replaced to guarantee the long-term future of the property.”

Aside from Frogmore, figures from the Sovereign Grant show that it costs the British public $103,000 for Harry and Meghan to travel to Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji on their official tour last year.

Prince William's best friend, Thomas van Straubenzee, is engaged to Lucy Lanigan-O'Keeffe.
Lucy is a teacher at Battersea School in London, where Prince George is a student.

The Times reports that van Straubenzee, man with the fanciest last name ever, proposed to Lanigan-O'Keeffe just last week. And fun fact: Prince William is going to be an usher at their upcoming wedding, which I really hope involves him languishing at the end of aisles and telling confused people where to sit. Also, George and Charlotte are likely going to be a pageboy and bridesmaid, which means cute outfits are coming.

FYI Van Straubenzee is extremely close to the royal family (he's actually Princess Charlotte's godfather), and Lanigan-O'Keeffe teaches outdoor learning and mindfulness at George's school. It's unclear how the pair met, but let's assume 'that Prince George introduced them 'cause that would be highly cute. Meanwhile, Van Straubenzee's brother Charlie is tight with Prince Harry, and the Times reports that he's expected to be one of Baby Archie's godfathers.

Paris prosecutor: no sign Notre Dame fire of criminal origin

http://sg.uploads.ru/t/TwdcS.jpg

PARIS (AP) — A preliminary investigation found no evidence to suggest that a fire that gutted large parts of Notre Dame Cathedral was criminal, the prosecutor's office said Wednesday.

The prosecutor's office said in a statement that several hypotheses about the cause of the April 15 blaze include a malfunctioning electrical system or a smoldering cigarette — to be further investigated in a new probe.

The prosecutor's office announced the opening of a judicial investigation led by three judges for "involuntary degradation by fire through manifestly deliberate violation" of security rules or simple imprudence. It targets "X," meaning anyone or any entity suspected.

The 13th-century cathedral was under renovation at the time of the fire and scaffolding crisscrossed the back of the edifice where the spire was once located.

The fire tore through the roof, destroying the spire which toppled in flames and vast sections of the interior. It has left the crippled monument, once a major tourist attraction, barricaded to the public and the faithful.

In the preliminary investigation, judicial police examined more than 1,200 clues and heard testimony from around 100 people.

"If certain deficiencies, by which the size of the disaster could be the consequence, were made clear, the investigations have not thus far allowed us to determine the causes of the fire," the prosecutor's office said.

As the detective work continues, workers are taking on what officials have said it one of the most complex operations — cutting down the 50,000 tubes of scaffolding erected for the initial pre-fire renovation. The tubes reached more than 800 C (1,472 F) during the fire, according to a statement Wednesday by the Notre Dame Foundation.

French President Emmanuel Macron has said he wants the renovations completed in five years. Paris hosts the Summer Olympics in 2024, but numerous experts question whether the cathedral can be operational by then.

The costs of the gargantuan task of renovating the monument won't be known until Spring 2020, but they are bound to be as colossal as the cathedral — and current headaches over payments. However, some relief was in sight.

The Notre Dame Foundation announced Wednesday that major French donors, Bernard Arnault, his family and luxury giant LVMH Group have made an initial payment of 10 million euros on a pledge of 200 million as have Francois and Francois-Henri Pinault who pledged 100 million. No funds had previously been forthcoming.

The Notre Dame Foundation said the initial payments were made "at the initiative" of the foundation. However, word that two of France's richest men were finally issuing funds came after The Associated Press and others reported this month that major French donors weren't paying into their pledges but instead waiting to see how the funds would be used.

The Notre Dame Foundation's Cathedrale de Paris Fund has so far raised 396 million euros in donations and pledges. But pure donations to pay companies working on the site total 38 million euros — coming from 42,000 individuals plus 60 companies and public authorities, the foundation said.

Royal photographer's scathing exposé on 'sulky' Meghan and Harry

Harry and Meghan are facing significant criticism from royal photographer Arthur Edwards.

A veteran royal photographer has shared a glimpse behind the scenes of Meghan and Harry’s contentious royal presence, and it looks like our suspicions may be confirmed.

Royal watchers might be thrilled with the prospect of getting a proper introduction to the royal bub on the couple’s upcoming tour of South Africa, but this royal insider is markedly unimpressed.

Photographer Arthur Edwards has snapped the world’s poshest family for The Sun for 40 years, and is repeatedly referred to as the closest photographer to the royal clan.

When Kate and Wills introduced Louis to the world, Arthur was singled out by the Prince in his speech, he’s often photographed interacting with members of the family, and was once on the receiving end of one of Harry’s pranks.

Now however, he has published a personal account of the reality of working with Meghan and Harry, and the pair don’t come off in the most favourable light.
The reality behind the cameras

While rumours have swirled for months around the Meghan’s difficult behaviour, Edwards described the pair as both projecting a poor attitude to their royal duties.

He says recently, Harry has ‘sulked’ almost incessantly, and he no longer recognises the sweet young royal he watched grow up.

“The old Harry is no longer there, and he seems to have forgotten that being a royal is a two-way street,” he writes.

He also slammed Meghan’s absence from the state dinner with President Trump, saying he ‘couldn’t believe’ her decision to stay away.

“Harry seemed to sulk all the time he was with the Trumps and it was Meghan’s duty as an American member of our Royal Family to support the Queen and welcome her President,” he says.

However, let’s not forget that Meghan is still on maternity leave, and was only four weeks into motherhood when the Trumps came to town.
Royal snub

The photographer also weighed in on the confusion surrounding Archie’s birth, saying he was so personally offended by the couple’s decision to allow only one press photographer, that he deliberately sat it out.

The long-time snapper described that he chose to follow Charles’ trip to Germany in order to photograph royals who ‘wanted me to photograph them’.

This is all the more significant given Arthur has photographed eight royal births according to his Twitter bio, one of which was Harry’s own.

He’s previously spoken out about the couple’s decision to skip the traditional photo opportunity outside the hospital, criticising them for bucking over 40 years of tradition.

Others meanwhile, praised the decision as it meant Meghan did not have to bring in hair and makeup teams and squeeze into a dress and heels just hours after giving birth.
New perspective

It’s no smear campaign from Arthur however, the trusted photographer was previously enthusiastic about Meghan, giving her the benefit of the doubt by putting any issues down to ‘nerves’.

"I think she's absolutely lovely, I've covered almost all the engagements she's done,” he told a Foreign Press briefing earlier this year.

"I think she's just a joy to work with, she's very nervous obviously, but she's doing a brilliant job."

Looks like there’s been a tectonic shift in the relationship, and now Arthur is calling for the couple to engage directly with the press to clear the air, although he doesn’t seem overly confident about the prospects.

“It would be great if Harry and Meghan had a clear-the-air reception for the royal press corps and tell us what’s really been going on,” he concluded his piece.

“But I don’t suppose they will — because it’s not what Meghan wants.”

Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Enjoy a Surprise Date Night at a Baseball Game

She’s still technically on maternity leave, but Meghan Markle just made a surprise post-baby appearance to squeeze in a little more quality time with her husband. On Saturday, the Duchess of Sussex joined Prince Harry to watch the first-ever regular season MLB game played in London. And judging by the photos from Meghan’s unannounced evening out, the impromptu date night was — yep, we’re going there — a home run.

Meghan kept it casual chic, wearing a belted black Stella McCartney dress and no-fuss ballet flats. Harry chose a classic black Invictus Games polo for the occasion, since the evening was in support of the Invictus Games Foundation. Before the game, the Duke and Duchess mingled with both teams: the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. “I was very very nervous,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora told ESPN about meeting Harry and Meghan. “We were pleased to have them in the clubhouse.”

Adorably, both teams gifted the couple with custom fan gear for baby Archie. From the Yankees, the royals received a Yankees jersey with the infant’s name and the number 19 emblazoned on the back. From the Red Sox, they received a miniature bat and a onesie perfect for any budding Sox-fan baby.

While it’s unclear which team, if any, Harry and Meghan were rooting for, the Red Sox might have had an edge. After all, they’re practically family… or so they say. According to Hello magazine, Red Sox’s Mookie Betts revealed to Meghan that they are distant relatives. “My great, great, great…” Betts started, before Meghan jokingly added, “Great, great, great….” Betts laughed, insisting, “We’re family somehow!” This earned him a hug from his long-lost cousin, er, Meghan. (Per The Boston Globe, Meghan and Betts’ ancestors are from the same part of Alabama.)

After meeting the teams, Harry and Meghan headed for a reception of Invictus athletes, where they confessed to Bianca Rainbow-Jones, a wife of one of the athletes, that they’d had “a sleepless night” due to baby Archie. Still, the couple seemed in good spirits as they watched the game from the stands with others involved with the Invictus Foundation.

Meghan hasn’t even made a handful of public appearances since giving birth to Archie on May 6, so her presence at the ball game was a pleasant shock. However, fans probably shouldn’t get their hopes up about Meghan returning to full royal duty just yet. According to the U.K.’s Express, a royal source has stated, “You’ll probably see her at a few engagements, but she won’t be back to work properly until later in the year.” How much later? Meghan will reportedly remain on maternity leave “until the fall.”

Prince Harry Revealed the Parenting Lesson He Learned from Princess Diana & We're Emotional
http://sg.uploads.ru/t/6fxnq.jpg

As a new dad, Prince Harry is looking to his parents for inspiration, and what Prince Harry learned from Princess Diana as a parent has never been more relevant. In honor of what would have been his late mother’s 58th birthday on July 1, the Duke of Sussex attended the Diana Award National Youth Summit on Tuesday, where he gave a speech about what his late mother taught him — both as a prince and as a father to his newborn son, Archie Harrison, who he shares with his wife, Meghan Markle.

“I’m struck by a few things today, most of which is the power of the invisible role model. The person who may be sitting here today that doesn’t realize that someone looks up to them, that — for that person — you inspire them to be kinder, better, greater, more successful, more impactful,” Harry said. “Perhaps it’s the newfound clarity I have as a father knowing that my son will always be watching what I do, mimicking my behavior, one day maybe even following in my footsteps.”

The Duke of Sussex continued by explaining that his behavior doesn’t only influence his son, but a whole population as well. “But it’s not just my role as a father that shows me that; it’s in the people I see every day that don’t realize how inspirational they are to those watching,” he said. “From small acts of kindness to large measures of character — each move that we make matters, especially when we don’t think anyone is watching. That is when our true character comes to light.”

Harry went on to talk about his late mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in August 1997. Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s youngest son opened up about what his mother taught him as a role model. “My mother, Princess Diana, was a role model to so many, without realizing the impact she would have on so many lives,” he said. “You don’t have to be a princess or a public figure to be a role model. In fact, it’s equally valuable if you’re not because it’s more relatable.”

Harry continued, “Being a role model and mentor can help heal the wounds of your own past and create a better future for someone else. As proven by today’s inspirational youth, and many of the stories we’ve heard this afternoon, the impact of a mentor has the power to make society richer, happier, kinder and more aligned.”

Harry’s comments come a day after his older brother, Prince William, surprised well-wishers at a vigil for Princess Diana outside Kensington Palace. It may be more than 20 years since Princess Diana’s death, but her memory lives on with her boys.
