Princess Beatrice Has Been "in Tears" Since Her Father Prince Andrew's Tell-All Interview

http://s8.uploads.ru/t/b9aLK.jpg

Princess Beatrice reportedly helped set up her father's BBC interview, which ended up making him look worse.
She's been upset and "in tears" ever since the interview aired.

Literally no one in the royal family is happy about Prince Andrew's tell-all interview that aired on the BBC last weekend, in which he attempted to justify his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and defend himself against sexual misconduct allegations. Since the interview aired, Andrew has stepped back from royal duties, Meghan Markle is said to be "horrified," and the Queen reportedly thinks that he's done "huge amounts of damage" to the monarchy.

And now it's being revealed that Andrew's daughter Princess Beatrice actually helped set up the explosive interview. A source tells Daily Mail:

Beatrice sat in on the discussions. Initially, Beatrice was skeptical that a television interview, which would inevitably delve into her father's private life, was such a good idea. She was asking lots of pertinent questions and had her doubts. But by the end of the meeting she was convinced...that they had no choice—that it was the only way to put all the rumors behind them.

However, Beatrice is reportedly now completely distraught by how the interview was received. So much so that it apparently affected her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's birthday dinner on Tuesday night, which was a "solemn and awkward affair." A source shares that "Beatrice was somber and make-up-free for the birthday dinner. She was probably worried that her mascara would run. She seemed quite tearful at times. In fact, Beatrice has been in tears every day since the interview went out."

Oy. This Prince Andrew scandal is a real mess!

Prince Andrew’s ‘Entire Public Existence Has Been Wiped Out,’ Says Royal Historian Robert Lacey
http://sd.uploads.ru/t/fWInc.jpg

The fallout from Prince Andrew’s disastrous interview about his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has seen his official royal role collapse to almost nothing in 10 days.

Just days after Andrew, 59, announced he was “stepping away” from public duties for the “foreseeable future” on Nov. 20, it now seems only a matter of time before it is confirmed that he will not continue with anything official ever. “His entire public existence has been wiped out by his own behavior,” royal historian Robert Lacey, author of The Crown: The Official Companion Vol. II, says in this week’s issue of PEOPLE.

http://s9.uploads.ru/t/mnkK2.jpg
Last week, he was forced to pull out of a trip to Bahrain for an international meeting of his Pitch@Palace organization, which promotes entrepreneurs and new ideas largely in the tech sector. And his office is set to move out of Buckingham Palace and center around Pitch rather than official royal work.

The moves to distance the monarchy from Andrew’s connection with Epstein have been been speedy, following discussions between the prince’s mother Queen Elizabeth, her eldest son Prince Charles and other senior royals. The decision “shows that the royals can move very swiftly and very ruthlessly,” says Lacey.

But the Queen, 93, has made sure that her personal support remains with her son. He accompanied her on horseback with two escorts on Nov. 22 — something she would know would likely be captured by photographers and send a signal that, despite her decision to ask him to withdrawn from public work on her behalf, she still stands by him.

Queen Elizabeth II Is Reportedly Retiring Within 18 Months So Prince Charles Can Assume Power

It could soon be the end of an era, as new reports claim Queen Elizabeth II plans to retire within 18 months so her son, Prince Charles can assume the throne. Per the U.K.’s Express, Her Majesty is giving “considerable thought” to stepping down sooner rather than later -- and definitely, a royal source says, no later than her 95th birthday in two years. So, would she be abdicating the throne? Let’s explore the royal scoop.

In two years, the queen will be the same age her husband, Prince Philip, was when he retired from official duties. Per royal succession rules, she can’t retire without abdication but can cease her royal duties and responsibilities if she feels her health is a concern. Then, if she ever became too sick or weak to carry out her duties, a regent -- like her heir, Prince Charles -- would step in. However, it seems as though Her Majesty wants to set things into motion before they become complicated by health issues.

http://sg.uploads.ru/t/0sF9Q.jpg

“Her Majesty is mindful of her age and wants to make sure when the time comes, the transition of the Crown is seamless. I understand the Queen has given the matter considerable thought and believes that, if she is still alive at 95, she will seriously consider passing the reign to Charles,”

a former senior member of the royal household reportedly told royal correspondent Robert Jobson.

Granted, unless the queen decided to abdicate, she would effectively remain Britain’s monarch in name and title. Charles wouldn’t officially become king until Her Majesty passed away, at which point he would assume the throne.

Although the royal family hasn’t publicly addressed the possibility of the queen stepping away from her royal responsibilities, the Express claims things are already moving forward behind-the-scenes. Following Prince Andrew’s recent disastrous BBC interview, palace insiders have allegedly taken to calling Charles by a special nickname that hints at his influence.

A royal source told the Sun, “The scandal surrounding Andrew and Epstein gave Charles an opportunity to step in to show that he can run The Firm. No one is bigger than the institution of the Royal Family. Not even Andrew, the Queen’s favorite son. Charles recognized that and acted decisively -- like the king he may well soon be. This was the moment when Charles stepped up as Prince Regent, the Shadow King.”

Prince Edward

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6c/Prince_Edward_February_2015.jpg/378px-Prince_Edward_February_2015.jpg

Unlike his older brothers and sisters, Edward is the only child of Queen Elizabeth who did not get a divorce. Edward is happily married to Countess Sophie Rhys-Jones, with whom he shares two children.

With Edward being relatively scandal-free, Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip, reportedly adore him and his family. Philip is even reportedly thinking about handing over his title as the Duke of Edinburgh to Edward when he passes.

Considering how the rest of her children have stirred up plenty of drama over the years, it is safe to say that Edward is one of her favorites.
Queen Elizabeth, who has reigned on the throne for over six decades, has not commented on the reports surrounding her relationship with her four children.

How the Royal Family Feels About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Spending Thanksgiving in the US

http://sd.uploads.ru/t/cBgdv.jpg
Family holidays are always complicated. For the royal family, this is especially true: Meghan Markle's family lives in the U.S., which means if she wants to spend some quality time with her mom, Doria Ragland, she will need to make the occasional visit across the pond. She and Prince Harry reportedly did just that for Thanksgiving this year; the royal family was reportedly supportive of this choice.

A source told Entertainment Tonight that the couple is spending their time with Ragland in a secure house that offers privacy from anyone who might be curious about their whereabouts in the States while they're here. Ragland lives in the L.A. area, where Meghan made a secret visit earlier this year.

This year, there have been many rumors surrounding the relationship among the Fab Four, Prince Harry, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Meghan Markle. But it appears that the royals will still be doing events together, at least to make the Queen happy. On Remembrance Day, the last event the group did together, they seemed to show a united front.

“Everyone was doing their duties, doing what they needed to do on behalf of the family—and that was that,” a source said. “But there is a divide between the four of them. It’s hard for people to digest, because everyone wants them to be such a unit.”

http://sd.uploads.ru/t/yDJAK.png

It’s likely that Harry and Meghan could be staying in America with Archie and Doria for an extended period of time now, as the couple have taken a leave of absence from royal duties for the final six weeks of the year. A Palace spokesperson recently confirmed that they would also be spending the Christmas holidays apart from The Queen, Prince William, Kate Middleton, as well as the rest of the royal family.

They’ll miss the usual traditional Sandringham celebration, but it’s not as big a deal as it might seem. In 2016, Kate Middleton and Prince William spent the holiday with Kate's family in Bucklebury and took Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

President George H. W. Bush's dog Sully immortalized in a bronze statue in Texas

Sully, the service dog who assisted late President George H. W. Bush in his final months, will now forever be by his owner’s side.

Officials at the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Tex., on Monday unveiled a life-size, bronze statue of the loyal Labrador in the venue’s east wing. The piece, by Susan Bahary at Bahary Studios, was commissioned by the non-profit America’s VetDogs, which provides service dogs at no cost to veterans, active duty service members and first responders with disabilities. In fact, the organization placed Sully with Bush, who served in the Navy during World War II, after the death of his wife, Barbara, in April 2018.

Sully was selected especially for the former POTUS because of his ability to handle Bush’s constant stream of visitors and travel itinerary, as well as assist him in a wheelchair, the organization’s Brad Hibbard told CNN in December 2018.

Princess Beatrice Cancels Engagement Party Amid Concerns About Prince Andrew Scandal

http://s8.uploads.ru/t/lrCOR.jpg
Princess Beatrice's upcoming engagement party has reportedly been canceled amid the scandal surrounding her father, Prince Andrew's, association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The 31-year-old royal has canceled her scheduled party at Chiltern Firehouse in London on Dec. 18, due to fears the paparazzi will swarm her father, according to multiple reports. Beatrice and her fiance, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, will instead hold an intimate gathering at a friend's apartment, Us Weekly reports. Edoardo proposed to Beatrice earlier this year; they'll tie the knot in 2020.

Andrew stepped down from his royal duties on Nov. 20, following a controversial televised interview with the BBC about his ties to Epstein.

"It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going on in the many organizations and charities that I am proud to support," Prince Andrew said in a statement last month.

Noting that he asked his mother, Queen Elizabeth, if he might "step back from public duties for the foreseeable future," Andrew revealed that Her Royal Highness gave her son her permission for him to step down.

"I continue to unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein. His suicide has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims, and I deeply sympathize with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure. I can only hope that, in time, they will be able to rebuild their lives. Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required," he added.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl told ET the next day, "My sources at Buckingham Palace are insisting that it was the duke's decision and that the statement reflects that. He says in that, that it's his decision to step down with the queen's approval. ... Reading between the lines, it is my understanding that Andrew understood he had to go. It was made very clear to him in that meeting between him and the queen that he had no choice but to step down from royal duties."

"It must have been incredibly hard for the queen, his mother -- Andrew is widely regarded to be her favorite son -- but she recognized that there was a huge amount of damage being done to the monarchy," Nicholl added. "He had no option, the queen had no option, but for Andrew to step back from royal duties."

Prince Harry and Prince William Were Set to Work 'Side-by-Side': Harry 'Was the Secret Weapon'
Stephanie Petit

While Prince William is the future king, Prince Harry was expected to play an important — even if supporting — role in the future of the monarchy.

“Courtiers imagined in the future that Harry would be shoulder-to-shoulder with William when he was King,” Penny Junor, author of Prince Harry: Brother, Soldier, Son, tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “He would pick up the bits that William wouldn’t be as good for. They would be complimentary and side-by-side throughout their lives.”

“That was a lovely picture,” she continued. “Harry was the secret weapon, really.”

However, a schism between the brothers deepened over the past years. Multiple sources previously told PEOPLE that tensions rose back when Harry first told his family he wanted to marry Meghan Markle after less than a year of dating. An insider says William, who dated college sweetheart Kate Middleton for about eight years before tying the knot, cautioned Harry that things were moving too quickly, leaving the younger sibling angry and hurt.

The brothers grew up close, especially leaning on each other in the wake of losing their mother Princess Diana at such an early age. However, Prince Harry dealt with being known as “the spare” to his older sibling from his birth.

“It’s not terribly good for your self-confidence,” says Junor. “He was always compared to William: William was the good-looking one, the important one, the clever one. Harry was the also-ran. I think that did take a toll on him.”

On Monday, the brothers traveled to Sandringham for a family summit with grandmother Queen Elizabeth and father Prince Charles to discuss Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down as senior royals.

After a 90-minute discussion, the Queen released the following statement: “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,” the Queen said in a statement. “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.

“Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives. It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK. These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”

Meghan, the Queen, and Kate Have Worn a Lot of Brown Lately

From Marie Claire

It's been one week since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their plans to step down from "senior" royal family duties, and a lot has happened, to say the least. We've seen statements from the Queen, trips to Canada, family meetings, and...a lot of the color brown? If you're a fan of the royals, you've probably noticed that the shade has showed up in the outfits of the Queen, Kate Middleton, and Markle more than usual.

The head honcho herself, the Queen, is well-known for her preference for bright colors that can be seen for miles. Her daughter-in-law Sophie, Countess of Wessex, even said so in the documentary The Queen at 90: "Don't forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the queen's hat as she went past."

One day before the couple announced to the world the big news, Markle was photographed at an engagement at Canada House wearing an all-brown outfit I would die for.

So when the Queen showed up to church on January 12, four days after the announcement, wearing head-to-toe beige—well, it was a statement, to say the least. "She knew she would be photographed, and that the most recent pictures of her would be published in the papers alongside the most recent pictures of Meghan," speculated Elizabeth Holmes, author of the forthcoming book, HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style, to Harper's BAZAAR. "To have them in the same shade, I took very much to be a sign of unity."

According to the Very Well Mind' s principles of color psychology, the shade of brown stands for strength and reliability. It's a color that is "often associated with resilience, dependability, security, and safety." The theory seems to hold true, especially since Middleton was seen wearing two pieces of brown—a khaki coat and a brown turtleneck—as she drove her two oldest children to school. But hey, maybe she just was in an all-over brown kind of mood?

To quote Holmes: "It could be a coincidence, but I think perhaps not."

Prince Harry speaks out on royal exit: 'I want you to hear the truth from me'

https://forumupload.ru/uploads/0012/8d/0b/33/t40745.jpg

A day after his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II announced that he and wife Meghan Markle would give up their HRH titles and pay back the millions spent on having their home at Windsor renovated, Prince Harry has addressed the couple’s decision to step back as senior members of the royal family.

Speaking a dinner for the Sentebale charity, which he founded, on Sunday night, the royal reassured supporters of his love for his home country but explained some of the reasoning behind distancing himself from his official duties.

Royal correspondents report that Harry expressed the “utmost respect” for the queen and spoke of the support he’s received from his family. According to ITV’s Chris Ship, he joked about “finally” getting “hitched” to Meghan in 2018, while the Daily Mail’s Rebecca English reports that he referred to the duchess as “the same woman I fell in love with.”

Both correspondents noted that the prince added that “it brings me great sadness that it has come to this” in reference to the royal exit.

Thomas Markle Says That

Meghan and Harry Are "Destroying" and "Cheapening" the Royal Family

https://forumupload.ru/uploads/0012/8d/0b/33/t59205.png
From Cosmopolitan

Welp, Thomas Markle is once again publicly slamming his daughter Meghan Markle.

This time, he's saying that Meghan and Prince Harry are "foolish" to step down as senior royals.

Sorry to do this to you first thing in the morning, but Thomas Markle has already made some very "uggggggh, why???" statements about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's step-down agreement. This comes after news that he's going to be testifying against Meghan in court, and truly, the man must be stopped!

In classic Thomas fashion, he decided that the best thing to do after seeing his daughter face adversity was to—instead of contacting her to see if she was okay/offer support—totally blast her in the British media. Per Daily Mail, Thomas collaborated on a new documentary for Channel 5 called Thomas Markle: My Story, which is all about his relationship with Meghan and their fallout.

And because the documentary looks like it's going to be the garbage fire you think it is, I'm just going to point out some choice quotes from Thomas:

They are turning it [the Royal Family] into a Walmart with a crown on...This is not the girl I raised.

When they got married they took on an obligation, and the obligation is to be part of the Royals and to represent the Royals. And it would be foolish for them not to.

This is one of the greatest long-living institutions ever. They are destroying it, they are cheapening it, making it shabby…they shouldn't be doing this.

With Meghan and Harry separating from the Royals…it's disappointing because she actually got every girl's dream. Every young girl wants to become a princess and she got that and now she's tossing that away…it looks like she's tossing that away for money.

I think both of them are turning into lost souls at this point.

So if you need me, I'll just be here, slamming my head against a wall!

Prince Harry stepped out for his first public appearance nearly two weeks after he and wife Meghan Markle announced their decision to step down as senior members of the royal family.

On Sunday, Harry, 35, attended an event organized for his supporters of his Sentebale charity, which is aimed at supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children afflicted with HIV.

Harry delivered a speech at the event, during which he addressed the couple’s recent agreement with Queen Elizabeth about their exit from the royal family.

“Before I begin, I must say that I can only imagine what you may have heard or perhaps read over the last few weeks. So, I want you to hear the truth from me, as much as I can share – not as a Prince, or a Duke, but as Harry, the same person that many of you have watched grow up over the last 35 years – but with a clearer perspective,” he said.

“The U.K. is my home and a place that I love. That will never change. I have grown up feeling support from so many of you, and I watched as you welcomed Meghan with open arms as you saw me find the love and happiness that I had hoped for all my life. Finally, the second son of Diana got hitched, hurray!” Harry shared.

“I also know you’ve come to know me well enough over all these years to trust that the woman I chose as my wife upholds the same values as I do. And she does, and she’s the same woman I fell in love with. We both do everything we can to fly the flag and carry out our roles for this country with pride. Once Meghan and I were married, we were excited, we were hopeful, and we were here to serve,” the father of one continued.

“For those reasons, it brings me great sadness that it has come to this. The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back, is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges,” Harry said. “And I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option. What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you.”

Harry further emphasized his new family dynamic with the royal family.

“Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am. But I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life,” he said.

Harry also referenced his late mother Princess Diana, who was a strong advocate for those affected by HIV and AIDS.

“I was born into this life, and it is a great honor to serve my country and the queen. When I lost my mum 23 years ago, you took me under your wing. You’ve looked out for me for so long, but the media is a powerful force, and my hope is one day our collective support for each other can be more powerful because this is so much bigger than just us,” he said. “It has been our privilege to serve you, and we will continue to lead a life of service.”

The prince added, “I will always have the utmost respect for my grandmother, my commander in chief, and I am incredibly grateful to her and the rest of my family, for the support they have shown Meghan and I over the last few months. I will continue to be the same man who holds his country dear and dedicates his life to supporting the causes, charities and military communities that are so important to me. Together, you have given me an education about living. And this role has taught me more about what is right and just than I could have ever imagined. We are taking a leap of faith – thank you for giving me the courage to take this next step.”

After Harry and Meghan, 38, announced on Jan. 8 that they would be stepping down from their royal duties and become “financially independent,” the former Suits actress flew back to Canada to be with 8-month-old baby Archie.

Harry, meanwhile, remained in London to discuss the big decision with his family. On Saturday, Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth said in a statement that she and her family had “found a constructive and supportive way forward.”

”Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family,” the Queen’s statement said. “I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life. I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family. It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life.”

https://forumupload.ru/uploads/0012/8d/0b/33/t74266.jpg
A separate statement from Buckingham Palace explained the details of Harry and Meghan’s next steps, and revealed that the new changes will take effect this spring.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are grateful to Her Majesty and the Royal Family for their ongoing support as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties, including official military appointments,” the statement said, before revealing that Harry and Meghan will “no longer receive public funds” and will no longer be using their HRH titles.

In Harry and Meghan’s original statement announcing they were stepping back as senior members of the royal family, the couple said that they planned to “balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America.”

The pair have yet to reveal where they’ll move to in North America. They could choose Vancouver Island in Canada, where they spent several weeks over the holiday season with baby Archie and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.

There is also the possibility of Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles or even Toronto, where she lived for several years while she filmed her hit show Suits.

Prince Harry barred from wearing military uniform after stepping back from Armed Forces

Harry, Duke of Sussex, will be barred from wearing his military uniform after he agreed to step back from his Armed Forces appointments.

Retired service personnel can wear their medals - but not their uniform - at official engagements once they have left the military.

Prince Harry was commissioned in 2006 and left the Army in 2015, having undergone two operational tours of Afghanistan twice in that time. In the Army he was known as ‘Captain Wales’.

But under the terms of the deal to step away from Royal duties, he will give up all military appointments. The announcement was made by Buckingham Palace on Saturday night.

His resignation from three honorary roles in the military will prevent him wearing uniform at public events such Trooping the Colour and Remembrance Sunday at the cenotaph.

Lord West of Spithead, the former First Sea Lord, said: “The next time he [the Duke of Sussex] is at a military event he should be in civilian clothes because he is no longer involved with any  military units. It is very unfortunate. It is very sad to be losing him from the military.”

Prince Harry’s highest profile military title was as Captain General of the Royal Marines, a role he was handed by the Queen in December 2017, succeeding the Duke of Edinburgh. He was also honorary Honorary Air Force Commandant of the Royal Air Force Base Honington and honorary Commodore-in-Chief of The Royal Navy’s Small Ships and Diving Operations.

The Duke will still be able to wear his medals including an Operational Service medal for Afghanistan, but protocol prevents him wearing uniform. By contrast, the Duke of Cambridge, who did not serve in a conflict zone and has also retired from the Armed Forces, can wear his uniform because of his various military honorary appointments.

The decision made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to spend more time in north America and to quit as ‘senior’ Royals that was made on January 8 had caused alarm within the Royal Marines. It is not clear who will now take on the role of Captain General.

Lord West said: “A number of people in the Royal Marines had expressed concerns that they didn’t want a part-timer carrying out such an important role. It will be interesting to see who the next captain general will be. The Duke of Edinburgh took it very seriously and he was delighted to pass it on to Harry. The Royal Marines will be sad to see Harry go but they were not happy to have a Captain General who was going to be only part-time in the UK.”

Here's How Prince Charles Plans to Help Meghan Markle & Prince Harry After Giving Up Their Royal Titles

https://forumupload.ru/uploads/0012/8d/0b/33/t90538.jpg
Big changes are underway. As it was confirmed yesterday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be losing their royal titles which means they will be required to repay the taxpayer funds used to renovate their home in Windsor and will no longer receive public funding. They are, however, free to seek employment elsewhere and will be “financially independent” — but Prince Charles will also be helping them out with finances as well, according to recent news.

“Prince Charles will still continue to offer private financial support,” said royal correspondent Omid Scobie on Twitter along with a series of other updates about the royal family. Scobie also revealed that while the couple will no longer represent The Queen, they will gladly still attend royal engagements, including Trooping the Colour.

This news comes on the heels of Meghan and Harry’s bombshell decision released on Jan. 8 to step down from their royal duties. “We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages,” the statement read. “This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”

Prince Charles Delivers Powerful Speech at Israel's Holocaust Memorial: 'All Humanity Must Learn'

https://forumupload.ru/uploads/0012/8d/0b/33/t93540.jpg
Prince Charles delivered a moving speech at the World Holocaust Forum
at Yad Vashem in Israel on Thursday, January 23, 2020

The Prince of Wales also laid a wreath on behalf of the United Kingdom as the world marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

“The magnitude of the genocide that was visited upon the Jewish people defies comprehension and can make those of us who live in the shadow of those indescribable events feel hopelessly inadequate,” he said.

“The scale of the evil was so great, the impact so profound, that it threatens to obscure the countless individual human stories of tragedy, loss and suffering of which it was comprised.  That is why places like this, and events like this, are so vitally important.”

The royal stated the Holocaust is everyone’s story, “a story of incomprehensible inhumanity, from which all humanity can and must learn.”

He added, “For that an evil cannot be described does not mean that it cannot be defeated.  That it cannot be fully understood, does not mean that it cannot be overcome.”

Charles, 71, was included in the small number of international leaders to deliver key addresses at the gathering. Aides at his office called his upcoming visit the “highest level British visit there has ever been to Israel or the Occupied Territories.”

Established in 1953, Yad Vashem is the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem.

“It has been a singular privilege, throughout my life, to have met so many Holocaust survivors who were welcomed to the United Kingdom and who began new lives there, contributing immeasurably to the welfare of our country, and the world, in the years that followed,” Charles continued in his speech.

With that, he spoke of Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, a cellist from the Women’s Orchestra in Auschwitz who survived both Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen before moving to Britain when the war ended. Lasker-Wallfisch co-founded the English Chamber Orchestra, where Charles said he is “proud to have been Patron for the past forty-three years.”

The prince also spent time with Holocaust survivors at the event. During a briefing at Clarence House earlier this month, Charles’s deputy private secretary Scott Furssedonn-Wood said Charles was looking “forward to meeting a number of British Holocaust survivors . . . a remarkable group of people with whom his royal highness has long valued his relationship.”

He is honored to “have the opportunity on behalf of the United Kingdom honor the memory of all those who were lost in the Holocaust and to reaffirm his determination that hatred, extremism and intolerance must never prevail,” Furssedonn-Wood added of the prince’s visit to Israel.

He also hopes to be able to make a poignant trip to a special site for his family — the resting place of his paternal grandmother Princess Alice. He last did so in 2016 when he as in the country for the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres.

With the mentioning of Lasker-Wallfisch, the royal spoke warmly of his grandmother who he has “long drawn inspiration from” after she helped save a Jewish family by taking them in and hiding them in her own home.

“My grandmother, who is buried on the Mount of Olives, has a tree planted in her name here at Yad Vashem, and is counted as one of the Righteous among the Nations – ḥasidei ummot ha`olam –  a fact which gives me, and my family, immense pride,” he said.

“I am immensely proud that my dear grandmother, Princess Alice of Greece, is buried in Jerusalem, on the Mount of Olives,” Charles said during a reception for members of the Jewish community in the U.K. in December. “She is counted one of the Righteous among the Nations for her actions in 1943 when, in Nazi-occupied Athens, she saved a Jewish family by taking them into her home and hiding them.  My grandmother was a formidable lady.”

Though he’s visited in the past for funerals, this event marked the prince’s first time coming to the country on official duty.

“The Holocaust must never be allowed to become simply a fact of history: we must never cease to be appalled, nor moved by the testimony of those who lived through it,” the prince said toward the end of his speech. “Their experience must always educate, and guide, and warn us.”

Charles’ visit also included meeting with President Reuven Rivlin at his Official Residence in Jerusalem and a reception for British Holocaust Survivors at The Israel Museum, where he explored the Shrine of the Book wing.

Additionally, on International Holocaust Day (Jan. 27), Charles’s wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will represent the U.K. at the official anniversary ceremony held at the former Auschwitz-Birkenau camp.

The White House is reportedly worried that House Democrats will continue to dig up damaging information on Trump after the impeachment trial
https://forumupload.ru/uploads/0012/8d/0b/33/t11137.jpg

Reuters

White House officials are concerned that House Democrats will continue investigations into President Donald Trump even after the impeachment trial into Trump concludes, Politico reported on Saturday.

Trump is currently facing trial on two articles of impeachment alleging abuse of office and obstructing Congress over a campaign to pressure the Ukrainian government to investigate his political rivals.

Since Trump was impeached by the House on December 18, a steady stream of new, incriminating information about the Ukraine scandal has continued to come to light.

Even though Trump is likely to be acquitted, Republicans expect House Democrats to continue investigating Trump, and they worry it could jeopardize the president's re-election prospects.

White House officials are concerned that House Democrats will continue investigations into President Donald Trump even after the ongoing impeachment trial into Trump concludes, Politico reported on Saturday.

On Saturday, members of Trump's legal team presented opening arguments for his defense in the ongoing Senate impeachment trial after three marathon days of arguments from the House impeachment managers prosecuting the case against Trump.

When Democrats took back control of the House in the fall of 2018, the Judiciary, Intelligence, and Oversight Committees immediately opened multiple investigations and oversight probes into Trump's administration than eventually transformed into the House's impeachment inquiry into Trump last fall.

Trump is currently facing trial on two articles of impeachment alleging abuse of his office and obstructing Congress. But officials are concerned that even if the Senate acquits Trump, House Democrats won't relent their investigations of his administration and specifically the Ukraine scandal.

Trump is accused of abusing his power by dispatching his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and other administration officials to withhold a congressionally appropriated $391 million military aid package from Ukraine for his own personal gain.

Based on documents, text message logs, and the sworn testimony of dozens of officials, the impeachment articles charge that Trump and his team leveraged the aid, in addition to the promise of a White House meeting, to pressure Ukraine's president to announce investigations into Trump's political rival Joe Biden and a discredited conspiracy theory that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election.

For Trump to be removed from office, two-thirds of the US Senate — 67 members — must vote to convict him of the articles of impeachment.

Currently, the Senate consists of 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats, and two independents who caucus with Democrats, meaning he is highly unlikely to be removed from office.

But even though Trump is likely to be acquitted in the Senate, officials close to the president told Politico they don't expect the flow of new information surrounding the conduct of Trump and allies around the Ukraine issue to end there — and they worry it could jeopardize the president's re-election prospects.

"No one in this building believes House Democrats are done with impeachment," one White House official told Politico on condition of anonymity. "I wouldn't be surprised if they launched a dozen more sham investigations between now and Election Day."

Since Trump was impeached by the House on December 18, a steady stream of new, incriminating information about the Ukraine scandal has continued to come to light.

On December 31, the national security publication Just Security got ahold of a trove of previously redacted emailed showing that officials at the Office of Management and Budget repeatedly ignored warnings from the Department of Defense that placing a hold on the military-aid package to Ukraine violated the law.

Next, the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office published a report January 16 finding that the Ukraine aid freeze did, in fact, break federal law by violating the Impoundment Control Act, which stipulates that congressionally appropriated funds must be spent within a given window.

And more recently, the Giuliani associate Lev Parnas, who played a role in the Ukraine scandal himself, has continued to make a series of explosive claims, some backed up with photographic, video, and audio evidence.

On Saturday, Parnas' attorney released audio and video of Trump ordering aides to "get rid" of former US ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, who was suddenly recalled from her post in the spring of 2019 for standing in the way of Giuliani and

One Republican Senate aide told Politico they believed "Democrats are going to keep releasing to their media friends supposedly 'new' info to demand more investigation and witnesses anytime the trial is nearly over."
